At New Volumes, our simple aim is to create exceptionally unique and beautiful collections that inspire and enhance the everyday. The winning product design entry will receive a contract with New Volumes to be produced and brought into its permanent collection of furniture, lighting and homewares. It will also receive international distribution. This is a rare opportunity to join a stable of Australia’s finest designers, and accelerate your design career.

Residential and Commercial Project Categories
Project Guidelines
To be eligible, the project must:
- Be a completed project within Australia.
- Be completed during or after 2022.
- Be no less than 100 square metres. Residential entries must be three rooms or more – inside or out.
- Be available for documentation in August/September 2024 over one to two days of filming, with the entrants physically available and willing to be interviewed on camera discussing their work.
- Be the entrant’s own work – any collaborators are to be noted and also meet eligibility requirements.
Documentation Requirements
To be eligible, the entrant must provide:
- Between five and 20 photos (phone camera photos are accepted).
- Two to four drawings and renderings showing the project intention clearly.
- Responses to the criteria as set out in the Awards Entry Portal.
Use of images in promotional materials
All entrants must have permission from all parties including clients, copyright holders and collaborators to allow The (Emerging) Designer Awards, Artedomus, The Local Project and New Volumes to publish their work on their respective websites and in any associated promotional materials, including print, and social media where The (Emerging) Designer Awards is being promoted, or receives editorial coverage. Photographers will be credited.
Product Design Category
Product Guidelines
To be eligible, the product must:
- Adhere to the Product Design Guidelines. Download Product Design Guidelines.pdf
- Be designed within Australia.
- Be completed during or after 2023.
- Must not have any existing commercial agreements attached to the product design.
- The designer must be the sole proprietor of the IP.
- The piece will be manufactured in terracotta using chalk moulds, so the form must take this manufacturing process into consideration.
- Be the entrant’s own original and authentic work – any collaborators are to be noted and also meet eligibility requirements.
Documentation Requirements
To be eligible, the entrant must provide:
- Between five and 20 photos.
- Two to four sketches, drawings or renderings that show the product intention clearly.
- We do accept models, please contact us directly to arrange delivery.
- Responses to the criteria as set out in the Awards Entry Portal.
Please note: The Product Design winner must be able to provide 3D files and CAD drawings to New Volumes.

What do you classify as an ‘emerging designer’?
Eligible entrants must have an active business which has been established within the last five years.
Can I enter The (Emerging) Designer Awards multiple times?
As long as your entry meets the eligibility criteria, you can enter as many times as you like, across multiple categories.
Do I need my client’s and photographer’s permission to enter?
Yes. All entrants must have permission from all parties including clients, copyright holders and collaborators.
What is the period in which my architectural or interior design project must have been completed?
Your architectural or interior design project must have been completed during or after 2022.
What is the period in which my product design must have been completed?
Your product design must have been completed during or after 2023.
Can I enter a product that has already been prototyped?
Yes. We welcome models, renders, drawings and photos for the Product Design category.
Does my project need to be professionally photographed?
No, professional photography isn’t essential, however good quality photography will ensure you are putting your best foot forward with Jurors.
What image file types should I submit?
Please submit JPG, JPEG, PNG, and PDFs. Each file size should be no larger than 5MB.
How do I enter?
We use a special, easy-to-use Awards Entry Portal. Once you’ve read the Entry Info, hit the Enter Now link to register and begin the entry process.
Can I edit my entry?
Yes. You may return and edit your entry as many times as you like. Once submitted you cannot make any further changes.
What is the prize package for winners of the Residential Interior, Residential Architecture, and Commercial Interior categories?
The winning Residential Architecture, Residential Interior and Commercial Interior projects will each receive a comprehensive video feature, worth over $100,000, and your project will be shared with The Local Project audience of 2.8 million.
What is the prize package for the winning Product Design?
The winning Product Design Entry will receive a contract with New Volumes to be produced and brought into its permanent collection of furniture, lighting and homewares. It will also receive international distribution.

Jury
Yasmine Ghoniem
Based in Sydney, Yasmine is the founding director of YSG, a multi-disciplinary practice trailblazing architectural builds and interior design across the residential, commercial and hospitality sectors around the globe. Her studio also collaborates with esteemed brands to create unique furnishing ranges. The provocative chords of Yasmine’s imagination have garnered countless design accolades including Designer of the Year at the 2021 Interior Design Excellence Awards.
In 2024, Yasmine featured in Architectural Digest’s definitive AD100 list in both Germany and the Middle East. She first received this recognition from Architectural Digest in 2022, featuring in the European AD100 that distinguishes the most influential interior designers, architects and designers world-wide.
David Meagher
David Meagher joined The Local Project as Managing Editor in 2023. Previously he was the Editor-In-Chief of The Australian’s monthly WISH Magazine for 15 years. He has been a Senior Writer on The Australian Financial Review Magazine, and Deputy Editor of The AFR’s Life & Leisure section and Sophisticated Traveller magazine.
David has written for numerous publications including Vogue Australia, Vogue Living, The Sydney Morning Herald, Harper’s Bazaar, Australian Art Collector and Marie Claire Australia. He is an expert in the luxury industry and has written extensively on architecture and design. He is the author of four non-fiction books including the bestselling 2023 memoir, Secrets and Lies, published by Penguin Random House Australia.
Chris Haddad
Chris Haddad is a Founding Director of Archier. Archier is an award-winning studio based in Melbourne and Hobart, with a particular interest in bettering quality of life through material honesty and considered design. Chris believes quality architectural design stems from a solid understanding of sustainable construction paired with ideas that are site and culturally specific.
He is passionate about how innovative technologies can be used to improve the built environment and democratise good design. This vision has led to the recent establishment of Candour, a prefabrication company that makes advanced timber manufacturing more accessible to architects.
Thomas Coward
Melbourne-based Cornish native Thomas Coward is the Creative Director of Artedomus and New Volumes. Established in 2008, his studio works across a range of disciplines, exploring both commercial and personal objectives. From Royal Commissions to exclusive private residences in the USA, Canada, the Middle East and extensively throughout Europe, Thomas has become recognised for his considered aesthetic and approach.
His work is informed by the premise that the design process is not solely solving physical problems, it is also about exploring the ongoing relationships between products, people and spaces. This can create unique outcomes with often hidden qualities that reveal themselves over time.
Alice Blackwood
Alice Blackwood is an editor, journalist and communications strategist, specialising in architecture and design. She was Editor of INDESIGN magazine and Managing Editor of Cubes magazine until 2023, before joining Artedomus as Editorial Director in 2024. Alice is a passionate advocate of the architecture and design industry within Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region.
For the past two decades her work on international design festivals, regional awards programs, and her active role in print and digital design media, has seen Alice foster and develop numerous major platforms that recognise and celebrate the region’s most exciting architecture and design, and elevate those industry leaders into the global spotlight. She remains active in her involvement in design and media industries as a Moderator, MC, Judge, Commentator, Mentor and Advisor.
About the Awards
Presented by Artedomus and The Local Project, The (Emerging) Designer Awards returns for its second year with two new categories, new prizes and free entry. Launched in 2023 by Artedomus with The Local Project, the awards received an overwhelming volume of entries into its founding two categories. In 2024 the program expands to offer Australian emerging designers two more significant ways to power up their career paths, with the introduction of the Residential Architecture and Product Design categories.
Among this year’s prizes for Residential Interior, Residential Architecture and Commercial Interior category winners are comprehensive video features worth over $100,000 each, as well as valuable media exposure on The Local Project to an audience of 2.8 million. The winners will be those that demonstrate potential through original design thinking, a superior approach to sustainability and performance, and a commitment to quality and innovation.
